الملخّص

Obesity is a major global health concern and is frequently associated with increased oxidative stress in adipose tissue. This study investigated the preventive effects of Matricaria pubescens (MP) powder against oxidative damage induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) in rat adipose tissue. Twenty-four male Wistar rats were allocated into four groups: Control (standard diet), MP (standard diet with 5% MP powder), HFD (high-fat diet containing 30% sheep fat), and HFDMP (high-fat diet supplemented with 5% MP powder). After 16 weeks, rats were sacrificed by cervical decapitation. Serum biochemical parameters, oxidative stress markers, and histological changes in adipose tissue were evaluated. HFD-fed rats showed a significant increase (p < 0.001) in body weight, BMI, thoracic and abdominal circumferences, and relative adipose tissue weight, accompanied by adipocyte hypertrophy. Moreover, HFD feeding significantly increased serum triglycerides, fasting blood glucose, and malondialdehyde levels, while antioxidant defenses, including reduced glutathione, superoxide dismutase, and catalase activities, were reduced. Overall, these findings indicate a protective antioxidant role of MP against HFD-induced adipose oxidative stress, supporting its potential use as a dietary strategy in obesity management experimental models.
